Chicken with vegetables from the oven, a quick lunch or dinner

Chicken with sweet potatoes and green asparagus is an idea for a simple, quick and very tasty dinner.

We start cooking the dish on the burner and finish it in the oven. Therefore, we need a frying pan or cast iron pot that can be used in the oven.

Outside the asparagus season, we can add green beans, young pea pods or mushrooms and onions to chicken and sweet potatoes.

We can fry chicken legs and bake them with or without the bone, I usually cut it out. If the legs are fresh, I will freeze the bones for later. If it is defrosted, I prepare the broth right away and plan a dish based on it for the next day.


  • 5-6 chicken legs, boneless but with skin
  • 1 large sweet potato
  • bunch of green asparagus
  • salt
  • pepper
  • sweet pepper powder
  • oil


  1. Preheat the oven to 200 ° C.
  2. Dry the chicken well with a paper towel and season it with salt, pepper and paprika.
  3. Scrub the sweet potatoes and cut them into thicker slices or pieces. Sprinkle with oil, lightly salt and pepper.
  4. In a frying pan or in a cast-iron saucepan, heat up a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Put the chicken skin side down in the pan and fry slowly for about 5 minutes.
  5. When the skin is lightly browned and a little fat is melted, add the sweet potato. Put the slices in the pan between the chicken pieces.
  6. Put the pan in the hot oven and bake for about 30 minutes.
  7. Then add the asparagus, turn the chicken with the skin up and bake it for about 15 minutes, until the sweet potatoes and asparagus will be soft.
