Chutney, sweet spicy fruit sauce made of plums and apples - homemade preserves

Homemade plum chutney with apples, onions, spices is unique in taste, and the recipe is easy and quick to prepare. Such a sauce is the perfect addition to cheese, curry dishes, meats, salads and more...


Sweet and sour, fruity and spicy plum sauce. I made my chutney from plums, but we can use any other variety of plums.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 kg of plums
  • 500 g of apples
  • 250 g of red onions or shallots
  • teaspoon of grated ginger
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of allspice
  • 1 teaspoon of gingerbread spice
  • 200 g of red wine vinegar
  • 300 g of cane sugar

PERFORMANCE

  1. Wash the plums, cut them in half and stone, then cut them into strips. Peel the apples, cut out the seed nests and dice them.
  2. Peel the onion and dice it as well.
  3. Put the chopped onion into a saucepan with a thick bottom, cover with sugar and caramelize over low heat.
  4. When the sugar has melted and the onion is soft, add the remaining ingredients.
  5. Simmer for about 30 - 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Be careful that nothing gets burned.
  7. When the chutney is thick enough, take out the cinnamon stick and bay leaves.
  8. Remove from heat and fill the scalded jars with hot water, close them immediately.
  9. Chutney can be pasteurized in jars to be sure.
